The Mitchell and Collier families; Bedford, UK.    Date of Stay: July 2008

Can Albert was lovely - a real escape. Chris and Nuria are close by to offer any help. We were a two family party from Bedfordshire, UK with children's ages ranging from 17 & 15 (boys) to 14 -12 (girls) and were Chris and Nuria's second guests at the end of July.

The pool proved very popular, as did the bikes and the outside wilderness for the boys to practice their golf chipping and tennis. We tended to spend a lot of time by the pool taking it easy, venturing further afield to stock up the fridge as necessary. We often used the TV room as a "cooler retreat" when things got too hot elsewhere - internet access was useful when deciding where to go.

The market and butchers in L'Ametlla was a real "find" for fresh veg - open everyday in all it's airconditioned splendour. The largest supermarket we found was the intermarche in Miami Plage/ L'Hospitalet, otherwise Suma and Spar did us proud in El Perello or L'Ametlla. Being a party of 9, we ate in most days, the dads mastering the BBQ whilst the mums endured the heat of the kitchen. Mary had to keep especially busy since she chose the holiday to try and stop smoking.

The best restaurant we found was one of Chris's recommendations - Llorena, overlooking the harbour. This had something for everyone and was very good value - the fish paella was superb and the meat eaters/fish haters amongst the children were happy with their meals. Unfortunately we ran out of days to try the pizzeria.

We found a bargain golf couse disguised as a par 3 "pitch and putt" at Vandellos. What a revelation- spectacular mountain views - the boys played there 3 times in all, and the girls tried out the driving range. The highlight was Charlie's (17) hole in one, which made his hols.

As for beaches, our favourite turned out to be L'Arenal at L'Hospitalet d'Enfant because it was very clean, with plenty of parking opposite and close to the town. There is a pedalo hire for 10 euros per hour and sea sausage rides for 8 euros per person - we invested in some lilos which proved popular both on the beach and at the pool.

Though a local attraction, our trip to the delta was wasted upon the children, who were soon bored. The wildlife spotters in the party would have happily spent more time there, but couldn't put up with the kid's moaning for that long! They enjoyed our day at Aquopolis water park at La Pineda far more - this opens at 10 and closes at 7 and kept them all quiet - this wasn't too busy and we didn't have to spend ages queueing  on the rides. It is worth hiring a sunbed or chair, but not a tyre we thought. There is plenty of grassy spaces and lots of activities for families with younger children than ours - beach and paddling pools and smaller slides for instance.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Can Albert.

Much better than expected"

We were 2 families with 5 children ranging from 9-14 years. We stayed for a week at Can Albert the last week in August. Our first impressions as we drove up the track were fantastic as the owner is much better at renovating his villa than he is a photographer. The place was great, clean, very well equipped both in the kitchen as well as elsewhere. Added pluses were the bikes and the space surrounding the villa for the 'little darlings' to charge about on/in.

This villa is rural, peaceful with bags of space both inside and out and the perfect location to get away from it all. That being said the closest supermarkets were both approx.5 minutes drive away and the local fishing village is a proper working port and therefore seafood was awesome.

I can highly recommend Chris, his wife and their villa, as they have done a good job and were on hand when needed without being at all intrusive.

Can Albert October 2008

We had a wonderful week at Can Albert. We were a group of three adults and two 15 year old girls. Chris and Nuria were extremely welcoming; nothing was too much trouble. The villa was spacious, clean and well equipped and the beds were very comfortable. It was great not to have to pack tea towels or pool towels (most other villas do not supply these). The outside area including the large, immaculately maintained pool was secluded and private and there was plenty of parking space. We all made use of the bicycles at the property and enjoyed riding around the surrounding olive groves. It was great to return to the sanctury of Can Albert after a day of adrenalin rush-inducing rides at Port Aventura only 30 minutes drive away. The same distance to the south took us to the beautiful River Ebre and the fabulous mountains beyond. High in the mountains, we enjoyed some fantastic rustic Catalan cuisine. Following the river, inland took us to the beautiful little town of Miravet, clinging to a rock with its castle above. Excellent seafood could be sampled in the nearby fishing ports of L'Ametlla de Mar and L'Ampolla.
In short Can Albert is ideal for those who want a perfect little piece of real Spain yet offers everything from lovely countryside, historic towns, mountains, beaches and the tourist attractions of Salou and Port Aventura within easy driving distance.
A week just wasn't enough!

We absolutely loved it and would not hesitate to recommend it to everyone we know!

Thank you Chris and Nuria for being so helpful and for giving us a great base from which to enjoy our much needed holiday!
